Worship and
Provision
We had our annual
church conference last week (10th-17th March) and the
theme was Mind-Shift which was based on the 2019 theme which is Reset and
Reposition. The sermons were really eye opening and with revelations which I just had to
share. The guests were Bishop Kyula of Purpose Center and Pastor Muriithi from
Mavuno Church. Bishop Kyula was ministering on Worshipping God and Provision. The
teachings, full of insight, helped us grow both spiritually and financially and
I’m here to share that. In his sermon on worship, he said worship is an act of
obedience. It is action. It is a response.
In Genesis 22, God
commands Abraham to sacrifice Isaac to show His obedience to God. Abraham doesn’t
hesitate. The day of the sacrificial giving, he goes the hill with Isaac
together with his servants. Abraham leaves the servants at the bottom and says in
verse 5, …and WE WILL come back to you (after giving the sacrifice). This
already shows the faith Abraham had in God that provision would be found at the
altar. On their way up, Isaac asks the father where the sacrifice is and
Abraham says the Lord will provide. As Abraham is about to slaughter his son, a
ram is on the other side of the hill. That becomes the sacrifice instead of his
only son, Isaac. That is why Abraham calls God, Jehovah Jireh (Hebrew term
meaning, The Lord Will Provide).
Now this ram did
not appear magically. It took each
step of Abraham and Isaac going up the mountain for the ram to take a step up
the mountain as well. Every leap of faith to worship God is a step closer to
your provision. This is one of the points I took home during this sermon.
Another revelation
from this sermon was the symbolism of the sacrifice between Isaac and Jesus. In
Genesis 22:6, we see Isaac carrying the wood on his shoulders as he climbs the
mountain to be offered as a sacrifice to God by his father Abraham. This
context is also seen in John 19:17 where Jesus was carrying His own cross on His shoulders as he
was going up the mountain in Golgotha to be offered as a sacrifice. Both Jesus
and Isaac knew that God shall provide a sacrifice for Himself. As they were
climbing the mountain, taking a leap of faith in God each step, the Lord was
preparing the sacrifice on the other side of the mountain. They knew they will not
die but will come back down alive. And truly Isaac returned with his father and
Jesus descended from the heavens after God made his flesh the lamb to be
sacrificed and let His spirit live to be a testimony. This one got me good. Glory!
Faith in God is
what gives you strength to carry on, climb the mountain of troubled times, consistent
fasting and prayer days, every hardship, you name them. But remember, at the
top of the mountain is where the provision is. Don’t give up the faith. God is
waiting for you to get to the place of provision by your worship, obedience,
patience. We never know the reason for the pain until we get to the top of the
mountain. God already knows your needs before you tell Him. He just needs to
see your obedience in His Word, your faith in Him and patience in His promises.
Jehovah Jireh, in
some other translations means, I saw before you needed. Keep hope alive, God is working it out.
I’ll leave you
with a song that blesses me.
Stay Blessed.
